Bid submitted for Cardrona eco-friendly holiday park
AN ECO-FRIENDLY holiday park could be built alongside a controversial chicken compound near Cardrona, writes Kenny Paterson.
Plans have been submitted by new Peebles company Cleek Lodges Ltd for nine log cabins on land west of the former William Cree Memorial Church.
The applicant says the lodges will be powered by wind, water and solar power generated at the location.
In a statement to Scottish Borders Council’s planning department, Cleek Lodges added: “Cardrona Log Cabins has been designed as an environmentally friendly facility.
“Wood for the structure of the chalets will be ethically sourced from sustainable forests.”
The statement adds that drinking water will be sourced from an on-site borehole and rainwater will be collected from the cabin’s roofs to use for dishwashers and toilets.
The submission by the company to the council planners also states: “An initial two of the eight chalets will have turf roofs. This is expected to improve insulation efficiency, dampen noise of rain on the roofs and help minimise the visual impact of the site.”
On-site facilities, says the company, will include a hot tub for each chalet while a hub house is also planned, which will be a larger building including four double bedrooms.
Andrew Cleghorn’s Cleek Poultry, previously the subject of several enforcement actions and numerous objections, currently sits adjacent to the proposed log cabin development.
A decision is expected by Scottish Borders Council on the holiday lodges bid by mid-September.
