I’d like to welcome readers of the Southern Reporter to my bi-weekly horse racing columns. Called ‘Turf Talking’ and available every Tuesday and Friday I’ll be using the column to discuss a variety or racing topics and news stories and will also be offering a few tips into the bargain, hopefully pinpointing a winner or two along the way.

If any of you are interested in racing and would like to have your own say then I’d urge you to join my online racing forum (www.theracingforum.co.uk) where membership is free. Once you’ve joined you can post your opinion on any racing topic you care to mention and can join in our free to enter competitions, most of which have really good prizes on offer.

Please feel free to
email me now or in the future if you have any queries, either about anything you see in any of the articles or about The Racing Forum.

Delegator provided another big fillip for the Guineas form with a conclusive win in Saturday’s Celebration Mile.

The first five in May’s classic included Sea The Stars, Delegator, Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman. A vintage line up and, looking back, it must have been quite a shock to the Ballydoyle team to go to Newmarket with two horses of the calibre of Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman and come away without a top three finish from either.

Looking ahead the week’s big news story is likely to come along on Friday when Keiren Fallon makes his return to the sport.

Out for 18 months, following a ban imposed by the French racing authorities for a drug related offence, Fallon will be hoping he can quickly re-establish himself with owners and trainers.

With a book of rides lined up for the weekend which includes bookings for several of Newmarket’s top yards it looks as though he won’t have any trouble attracting support.

The difficulty for Fallon, who has habitually found himself in trouble with the authorities throughout his career, might not be finding winners and let’s hope that this return will herald a shift as it’s unlikely racing will welcome him back so readily should he falter again.

A relatively quiet week in prospect, the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock at the weekend providing the highlight, but with the Doncaster St Leger meeting just around the corner there’s plenty in store in the weeks to come.

We’ve had an excellent run with the Turf Talking tips over the last few weeks (last Saturday’s double taking our tally to 8 winners from the last 12 tips) but the midweek racing this week looks pretty tough. We’ll do our best though!

On Wednesday, in the 3.30 at Brighton, BOLDINOR could be the one to be on. This Inchinor gelding has given signs that he could be coming back into a little bit of form and he’s worth taking a chance on in this low grade.

At Lingfield, again on Wednesday, the 3.20 contains runners from some of the biggest yards in the country and might take a bit of winning.

I think CIRCUMVENT, trained by Paul Cole, could provide the answer, having taken a recent maiden in resolute style beating horses from the Mark Johnston and Godolphin yards in the process.

Finally, Amanda Perrett’s three year old SABORIDO looks a real stayer and can appreciate the step up to two miles by following up his recent Salisbury success in the 2.50 at Lingfield Park on Wednesday.
